The Jammu & Kashmir SEHAT Scheme 2025, also known as Social Endeavour for Health and Telemedicine, is a flagship initiative aimed at providing universal health insurance to all residents of the Union Territory. Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 26 December 2020, the scheme ensures that every family in J&K, regardless of economic background, can access free and quality healthcare services at empaneled hospitals across the country. This scheme initiative complements the Ayushman Bharat–Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana – AB-PMJAY that is covering families that were previously excluded from the national health insurance database. With the combined effort of the central and UT governments, the SEHAT Yojana aims to make healthcare both accessible and affordable for all residents of Jammu and Kashmir.
🩺 About J&K SEHAT Scheme 2025
The J&K SEHAT Scheme 2025 stands for Social Endeavour for Health and Telemedicine. It is designed to extend free health insurance coverage of up to ₹5 lakh per family per year, enabling beneficiaries to avail cashless treatment at government and private hospitals empaneled under the scheme.

🏥 Implementation and Coverage
Nearly 1 crore people in Jammu & Kashmir who were previously uncovered under Ayushman Bharat are now included in the SEHAT Health Scheme. The abrogation of Article 370 allowed the central government to extend national health benefits to all J&K residents, ensuring equal healthcare rights for every citizen.
The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare is monitoring the rollout to ensure card distribution, hospital empanelment, and claim settlements occur seamlessly. The financial commissioner, Atal Dulloo, has directed all hospitals to register Indoor Patient Department (IPD) cases under SEHAT, including COVID-19 patients, to maximize the scheme’s reach.
💳 Benefits of the SEHAT Health Card
Beneficiaries of the SEHAT Scheme enjoy a wide range of benefits under this cashless health insurance system, similar to Ayushman Bharat:
| Benefit Type | Details |
|---|---|
| Free Treatment | Up to ₹5 lakh per family per year |

| Hospital Type | Both public and private empaneled hospitals |
| Cashless Facility | Available at any AB-PMJAY/SEHAT hospital in India |

🏥 Integration with Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY
The Ayushman Bharat – PM Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) is already operational across India, and with SEHAT, J&K residents now receive equal access to health protection.
The financial commissioner has instructed:
- All IPD cases must be registered under SEHAT Yojana.
- Arogya Mitras at hospitals should assist citizens in availing benefits.
- The J&K Medical Supplies Corporation Limited must ensure adequate medicine supply at hospitals to avoid shortages.
These combined efforts make SEHAT one of the largest inclusive healthcare programs in Jammu and Kashmir’s history.
